ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Agriculture, HP was established in the year 1948, but it was merged with the Forest Department in the year 1950. This arrangement continued till 1952. Thereafter, Department of Agriculture, HP started functioning independently and it was assigned the responsibilities of agriculture development, agriculture research and agriculture extension. At that time, the horticulture was also a part of the Department of Agriculture. In the year 1970, the Government of Himachal Pradesh created a separate Department of Horticulture and the agriculture research was assigned to Agriculture Complex.

Maximise Farm Income on Sustainable basis.

MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT

1. Extension & Transfer of Technology.
2. To increase production & productivity of food grains, vegetables, spices & Tea.
3. To promote crop diversification for enhanced farm income.
4. To facilitate efficient marketing
5. Input management & regulation.
6. Water harvesting & watershed management, efficient irrigation through micro irrigation.
